Ring robbery in Robindale

ROBINDALE – Woman robbed for her engagement ring.

A woman was robbed of her engagement ring by two men at the Robindale Spar parking lot.

Linden Police Captain Alex Vermaak confirmed that a case of robbery has been opened. Capt Vermaak explained that the victim had just parked her vehicle and was walking towards the Spar entrance when two men confronted her on 15 March.

“She was frightened when the one suspect pointed an item at her that appeared to look like a gun and demanded for her to give them the ring,” Capt Vermaak said.

The case was opened at Linden Police Station and will be investigated accordingly.

Capt Vermaak provided some personal safety tips:

• As soon as you exit a vehicle or your office/home, ensure that you first look around and observe your surroundings

• Avoid walking and talking on your cellphone as the conversation decreases your awareness of your surroundings

• Never walk around alone and don’t talk to strangers. Be on the lookout for strange cars or people

• Walk in well-lit busy streets and in a group, if possible

• Always let someone know where you are going and how long you will be gone, but think twice before advertising your impending absence on social media. Criminals also have access to Facebook and Twitter

• Know all emergency numbers

• Trust your instinct

• Avoid going into a congested street where you cannot walk properly – that is where you will find criminals pick pocketing

• Avoid displaying valuables where criminals can see them

• Criminals make use of the element of surprise to catch victims off guard, so prepare yourself for any eventuality.
