Rugby wins at Derby Day

RANDPARK RIDGE – The stadium was electric with the sounds of rugby.

Spectators revelled in an exciting sport display at Trinityhouse High School Randpark Ridge.

Trinityhouse played against Rand Park High School on 12 March matching their skills in games of rugby and netball on their annual Derby Day.

The host school Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge showed excellent spirit and their wolf-blue colours could be seen throughout the crowds.

For many, the Trinityhouse versus Rand Park Derby Day between the neighbouring schools, encapsulates the camaraderie of the Randpark Ridge area.

For both schools, the final first team rugby match drew in the most anticipation. The slippery, wet and muddy fields caused by heavy rainfall the evening before, made for a spectacular show of grass-roots rugby.

Rand Park first team performed well, making the host team work hard to maintain possession.

However, the first team match saw Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge win with a sensational score 20 – 10 .

Rand Park High School first team coach Sean Johnson said, “Trinityhouse thoroughly deserved their win on Saturday. They are a quality side who dominated the game and scored most of their points in the times just after and before breaks in play, and that’s where most rugby games are won.”

“The day was electric” said Johan Aucamp, Trinityhouse High School Randpark Ridge, Dean of Sport.

Aucamp said he felt the score line did not reflect the intensity and tightness of the game against a very well-coached Rand Park High side, that stood as much chance of winning as the host side.

“We took some important lessons from the game which will be incorporated into the rest of our season. We wish them well for the rest of their rugby season and look forward to our Derby games in the coming seasons,” said Johnson.
