Early rise at school breakfast

ROBIN HILLS – Grade 10 pupils entertain parents and teachers with a breakfast.

Eggs, bacon, toast and pancakes are just some of the breakfast favourites that the Grade 10 pupils of The King’s School prepared for teachers, staff and parents at a special breakfast held at the school on 12 March.

The Grade 10 hospitality studies teacher, Thandi Theron explained that the pupils have to host this breakfast as a part of their curriculum. All preparation was done by the Grade 10 pupils and service was done by Grade 11 pupils who helped out. The meals however, were not the regular scrambled egg as the pupils went all out with a menu that they had to pre-plan. “The pupils were allocated a specific dish before hand,” said Theron.

A pupil, Hlengiwe Xulu prepared the flapjacks for the starter. “It is a really relaxing subject and I like baking and cooking,” said Xulu. She said that she thinks it’s a great menu. One of only two boys taking the subject, Andrew Karnstedt said that he really enjoys the subject and would want to go into the hotel hospitality field one day.

Abigail Webb who was busy preparing a fried egg, said, “I love hospitality and enjoy cooking and will love to become a chef.” She added that it is a very creative and delicious menu and that she is excited to have it served to people.

Diners were very excited when servers, neatly dressed in black and white, came into The King’s café with neatly stacked fruit and muesli flapjacks. Afterwards, the Grade 10 pupils served the main breakfast buffet style. Parents, staff and teachers alike said that they are very impressed with the breakfast that the pupils made.
