JW investigate leak on Agnes Road

KYA SAND – Joburg Water investigates the leak after residents report a constant flow of clean water on Agnes Road.

Joburg Water (JW) is currently investigating a leak of clean water from the stormwater trench along Agnes Road in Kya Sand.

The City was made aware of the constant flow of water by members of the public. They then had the water tested to establish if it was municipal water. “They have not found the leak yet,” explained JW external communications officer Eleanor Mavimbela.

Ward 96 Councillor Matome Mafokwane shows where the clean water flows.

“The test showed that it was indeed our reticulated water. A quick sweep of the area was done to look for a visible leak that could be repaired immediately,” she continued.

According to Mavimbela, a possible spot was identified after electronic leak detection equipment was used.

“A team went out to investigate this spot but after pumping out a valve chamber they did not find any leak,” she said.

She further explained that the leak detection team would go back and survey the area again to find further possible leaks in the reticulation system.

“The repair team will go to the new spot indicated by the leak detection team to check and maybe excavate to repair the leak,” she concluded.

The road was previously flooded with clean water as storm water drainages were blocked, but this problem has since been resolved by Joburg Road Agency.

Ward 96 Councillor Matome Mafokwane explained that he initially contacted JW about the constant flow of clean water along the road.

“They indicated that after the rains they will investigate and re-investigate the problem,” he said.
