Deadline for water pipes in Randpark postponed yet again

RANDPARK – Joburg Water extended the deadline for a water pipe replacement project in Randpark.

The project to replace water pipes in Randpark will hopefully be completed by the end of March after it failed to meet its initial deadline.

Initially, the project was scheduled to be finalised in December last year.

The project entails Joburg Water replacing pipes along the streets of Randpark with the new 110 mm width pipe. JW external communications officer, Eleanor Mavimbela said the deadline was extended due to logistical problems.

She also explained that the entity deployed a resident engineer on site. “His major duties are site progress monitoring and quality management. We have also tasked the community liaison officer to issue ‘happy letters’ to the residents,” she said. According to Mavimbela, these letters are used to monitor the satisfaction of residents with JW projects in their area..

“The engineer’s representative will then make sure that all relevant issues raised in the letters are attended to,” she concluded.

Ward 98 Councillor Laurette Van Zijl said the contractors did a shoddy job. “It was not a very well-executed project. Residents have had serious problems with the reinstatement of their driveways. I am dissatisfied with the way it was done,” she explained.

Councillor Van Zijl advised residents to fill in the happy letters to raise their concerns about the fixing of their pavements and their driveways.

She indicated that she has been sending monthly newsletters to the residents since the project started early last year. “Residents should raise their complaints in the happy letter because they cannot complain afterwards,” she concluded.
