Honeydew Police confirmed this morning that they have reopened Beyers Naudé Drive between Johan Street and Peter Road after this section of the road was closed yesterday when some residents of the informal settlement burnt tyres and caused havoc with their rioting next to this busy road.
“We opened the road late last night,” said Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs. “We ask motorists to be vigilant and careful when driving on Beyers Naudé in the Zandspruit area, but we are monitoring the road and patrolling the surrounding areas also,” she explained.
Police were forced to close the road yesterday afternoon (8 March) due to the rioting.

Residents caused mayhem when police, JMPD, Eskom and City Power disconnected illegal electricity connections yesterday.
Jacobs asked residents from Zandspruit to refrain from using illegal electricity connections as it was very dangerous.
“Numerous cases were reported at the Honeydew Police Station of people, adults and children, who were electrocuted due to the illegal connections,” she said.
