UPDATE: Gauteng Police confirm shooting victim is alive

BOSKRUIN – Resident is recovering in hospital but is conscious and responsive.

Gauteng Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini confirmed that the resident who was shot during a robbery in the late hours of 4 March, is alive.

Douglasdale Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Balan Muthan previously said that a teenage boy had succumbed to his injury during surgery at Netcare Olivedale Hospital (see previous article).

 

Lt Col Dlamini has since confirmed that the victim is actually alive and recovering at the hospital. Furthermore, Lt Col Dlamini said that the robbery occurred in Boskruin, not Randpark Ridge, as WO Muthan said, and the victim is 18 years old.

The victim’s brother, Tiaan van Zyl, confirmed that his brother was shot in the stomach during the robbery, but is now conscious and responsive. He is also in a great deal of pain and is heavily medicated. Van Zyl added that during the robbery, three shots were fired at his parents, and the third bullet hit his brother after he struck one of the suspects with a bat.

Van Zyl thanked the Honeydew Police for visiting the family during the difficult time.
