Garden Village says thank you

BORDEAUX– The Garden village hosts a tea and cake event to thank their sponsors for donating wheelchairs to them.

The Garden Village hosted a thank you tea and cake event for their sponsor Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge Pre-Primary, Preparatory and Highschool.

The event took place on 4 March and was attended by pupils from Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge Preparatory, High school as well as staff members and the residents.

Garden Village manager Tamasyn Palmer said that the event was to thank their sponsors for donating five wheelchairs to residents at the village. “Trinityhouse achieved this by collecting bread tags and plastic bottle caps. They were then donated to Interwaste who weighed them and gave them money according to how much they weighed,” said Palmer.

The residents were excited about the wheelchairs and to have pupils visiting them for tea and cake. The pupils also got a guided tour of the village.

Trinityhouse Parents Association volunteer Lisa Palmer said that when her mother was a resident at the village, she did not realise the needs of the village. It was only when she was exposed to it that she understood what the residents needed. That is how she was inspired to buy wheelchairs for residents through collecting bread tags and plastic bottle caps.

Delicious refreshments and cupcakes were served to the guests.

Trinityhouse Preparatory School prefect Thato Makwakwa gave a speech about donating wheelchairs to the residents and how it is a way for the younger generation to pay tribute to them for their efforts.

“We are glad that collecting bread tags and plastic bottle caps made such a difference in the lives of the residents. So far we have been donating items to Garden Village for five years. We do a lot of community outreach programmes, such as selling bracelets at school. The funds raised will go towards taking children from Orlando township out on a picnic,” explained Makwakwa.
