Truck driver robbed at gunpoint

ZANDSPRUIT – A group of eight armed suspects allegedly held a BAT driver at gunpoint and absconded with a cargo of cigarettes.

Honeydew police are looking for eight armed suspects driving a white Quantum and a silver Mercedes Benz who robbed the driver of a truck carrying a cargo of cigarettes in the informal settlement.

The armed gang confronted the driver of a British American Tobacco (BAT) truck in Zandspruit at around 8am on 4 March.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs said the BAT driver was busy delivering stock when he was confronted by the group of armed suspects.

“They held him up and proceeded to another location where they started unloading stock from the BAT transporter into their vehicles,” she said.
