City Power MD cleared after improper conduct allegations

JOBURG – City Power's Managing Director, Sicelo Xulu, is cleared from allegations of improper conduct.

City Power’s managing director Sicelo Xulu has been exonerated from all the allegations leveled against him.

After considering all the available information and independent legal advice, City Power’s board concluded that there was no substance to the allegations levelled against Xulu.

This follows last year’s threat by the South African Municipal Workers Unions (SAMWU) to go on strike pending investigations into a litany of allegations ranging from alleged improper conduct to flouting procurement processes and recruitment practices.

These allegations prompted the utility’s boss to investigate the legitimacy of the allegations.

A participatory process was undertaken in dealing with this matter and SAMWU was invited to contribute relevant information for consideration in the process.

The chairperson of the utility’s board, Frank Chikane appealed to people to refrain from making damning allegations that cannot be substantiated as they tarnish the reputation of those who are accused and cast aspersions on their credibility and integrity.

“We are pleased and relieved that Mr. Xulu has been exonerated from all the allegations levelled against him, and he is now free to focus his energies on delivering on his mandate of keeping the lights on for the residents of Johannesburg,” he explained.
