Illegal dumping on View Road

BORDEAUX – Residents are mostly to blame for the illegal dumping along View Road.

Illegal dumping of rubble along the View Road at Bordeaux North is a serious problem.

Residents who use cheap removal companies were apparently to blame as it contributed to the problem. Cheap removal companies often dump rubble or building material on the side of the road in the same suburbs they service.

Ward 102 Councillor David Potter encouraged residents to question these removal companies where they dump the material before giving them a job. “This will ensure that the material does not end up on our sidewalks or in our green spaces,” he explained.

Residents and Councillor Potter recently alerted JMPD officials about a truck that was constantly dumping rubble in the same spot.

“JMPD arrived only to find the same truck returning with illegal dumping material from a residential property in Hurlingham Manor. The JMPD escorted the truck back to the site of the illegal dumping and made them reload the material back onto their truck to legitimately dump it,” he explained.

Potter further indicated that JMPD and the truck returned the following day to remove the rest of the material.

“Thanks go to JMPD for ensuring that the law was upheld in this instance, and we look forward to consistency and sustainability going forward,” he continued.

He concluded that illegal dumping was an issue across the City of Joburg and that View Road was one of the spots in Ward 102.
