ANC Ward 104 candidates meet their community

FERNDALE –The Community of Ward 104 gets the opportunity to meet candidates from the ANC Bram Fischer branch.

ANC Bram Fischer Ward 104 began their next step for the candidate selection process for the upcoming local elections, on 29 February at the Ferndale Recreation Centre.

The branch chairman, Professor Bongani Khumalo explained that this was an opportunity for the community to meet the four candidates that may stand for local elections. “New rules ensure that all ward councillors are nominated by the branch, go through a session with the community where people can meet candidates and ask questions,” said Prof Khumalo.

He further highlighted that there are many steps to the process such as nomination, a screening, interviews and so on.

Candidates introduced themselves, and explained their understanding and exposure to local government.

The council posed questions such as, how they will engage young voters and to declare any past transgressions that may compromise their integrity. The candidates spoke of infrastructure development, the need to tackle drugs and drug dealers, improvement of parks and shared facilities and investment in people in the form of adult basic education among other interventions.

“Our point was to open our process to the public so that we do not nominate candidates in a closed process only to find the public rejecting our candidate,” added Dr Khumalo.
