Shaved, sprayed and donated

NORTHRIDING – Shave it all, or spray it at the Northgate Shopping Centre Cansa Shavathon.

Shave, spray and donate was the theme of 2016’s Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) Shavathon on 27 February at Northgate Shopping Centre.

Flocks of people arrived to either have their hair sprayed or shaved in support of the 13th annual Cansa Shavathon. Those who chose to spray paid a ‘bail-out-fee’ while the brave few chose to shave it all off.

The ponytails that were salvaged will be donated to making wigs for those fighting hair losses due to cancer treatment.

Priscilla Maharaj, the floor manager for the Shavathon at Northgate, spoke about the brilliant success of these events. “It’s a phenomenal initiative and wonderful to see how many people are aware of cancer and would like to support the Shavathon,” said Maharaj.

The Cansa team had collected about five ponytails by 12pm on the day and were hopeful to get many, many more.
