Vet of all trades

FONTAINEBLEAU – Filthy vet operates as a tuck shop.

Linden Police raided a veterinary clinic on the corner of Cooper Avenue and Republic Road in Fontainebleau on 24 February.

The police got a tip-off from concerned community members about the clinic looking dodgy from the outside. Linden Police went to inspect it last week and found that the owner of the veterinary clinic was out of town. The condition and cleanliness of the building inside were concerning and a health inspector was brought along on their second raid.

The entrance of the clinic is a tuck shop – they sell chips, sweets, toiletries, vegetables, canned foods and other foods. The tuck shop was also filled with posters of the vet and had the stench of dogs. The other rooms in the house were quite filthy with used needles and junk all over the floors and the counters. There were also bedrooms where people lived. The room where the animals are kept was empty, but one of the cages had dog feces, dog food lay open all around. The room was filthy and medical equipment such as used medical drips and needles, which are a health and safety hazard, lay about everywhere.

The man who is said to be the doctor said that he is a no longer practising as a vet, however would not show the police his practice certificate and said that he would like a lawyer if he was under arrest.

“The vet will be under investigation, a health inspector of the area will assess the house and according to the findings, there will be a case opened,” said Linden Police corporate communications officer Constable Carol Mulamu.
