Robin Hills Primary School boasts a passionate cricket team

RANDPARK – Robin Hills Primary wins an intense cricket match against Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge Preparatory.

Robin Hills Primary School A side played a game of cricket against Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge Preparatory  D side on 23 February and won by 10 wickets. Coach for the U11 team, Vernon Ludick said that it was the players’ pure passion for the sport that brought the win.

Trinityhouse batted first, but had a rocky start. Three wickets fell in the first over, leaving the innings in disarray. Robin Hills bowlers capitalised on the pressure to get Trinityhouse all out for 69 after 16 overs. The Robin Hills opening partnership gave nothing away, and played shots all around the field. Robin Hills won in the 19th over without losing a wicket.

On match day, Stembiso Mvemve was the team’s top scorer with 27 runs. He is also one of the team’s top players, according to Ludick.

Both teams came eager to win on the day and this was evident by both of their ‘no-holds-barred’ attitude. Their tenacity and will to succeed propelled each ball. “Robin Hills Primary has only lost one match this year and that was to Northcliff Primary School,” Ludick boasted.

He further divulged that the team plays its fixtures in January and February each year. He added how his team are all from a non-cricketing background and everything they know about cricket, they learned on the school pitch. “Had they been introduced to cricket much sooner in their lives they would be even better than they are now,” said Ludick.

He also went on to praise the sheer passion for the sport that pushes the team constantly to strive past their challenges. He added the school is not fortunate enough to equip the players with the best kit, “Our boys still excel, even with over-sized helmets or worn out bats.” Coach Ludick furthermore indicated that the team sometimes cannot make it to matches due to lack of transport.
