Operation Hydrate in full motion at local schools

NORTH RIDING – Northriding Pre-Primary School and Sharonlea Childcare Centre promote the importance of saving water through the Operation Hydrate initiative.

Northriding Pre-Primary School and Sharonlea Childcare Centre are passionate about making a difference in the community.

Operation Hydrate is an initiative to assist with the collection and distribution of drinking water to drought-stricken areas in South Africa. Northriding Pre-Primary School principal Kaylee Seaton said that they have been collecting water for three weeks with the help of parents and staff members.

“The response from everyone has been great. Some parents even drop off water twice a day when they drop and collect their children from school. So far we have collected 265 litres of water in different water bottles,” said Seaton.

She added that as part of their health and hygiene week at the school, they teach the children about hygiene and how to save water. This included the importance of turning off the tap when washing their hands or brushing their teeth.

Sharonlea Childcare Centre principal Bianca Jooste said they plan on participating in the Operation Hydrate campaign for two terms due to the good response. “We believe water is a basic need for everyone and would like to offer our help wherever we can. While teaching the pupils the importance of saving water,” said Jooste.
