Golang Preschool empowers children with education

ZANDSPRUIT– Golang Preschool encourages pupils to equip themselves with education which will have long-term benefits in their schooling career.

The Golang Education Outreach  is based in Emothonjeni Community Centre in Zandspruit. The Outreach aims to mainly serve people living in the informal settlement of Zandspruit.

The Golang Preschool was established in 2008 by The Golang Education Outreach CEO Margaret le Roux.”We opened a preschool after realising preschool learning is vital to the early developmental stages of children. Our main focus is to prepare them to be enrolled in Grade 1 and be able to cope with the curriculum,”said Le Roux.

The Preschool has 60 pupils that are separated into Grade R, Grade 00 and Grade 000, and they attend school five days a week. Le Roux said the preschool is a registered non-profit organisation funded by individual and corporate sponsors and they also receive a grant from the department of social services.

“The funds we receive from our various sponsors go towards purchasing educational items, playground equipment, salaries for the staff and to maintain the overall preschool. We also welcome donations and sponsorship for an individual child that goes toward funding their educational resources. There are fundraising events we host in a bid to also raise funds for the preschool,” said Le Roux.

Golang Preschool principal Simphiwe Khumalo said that parents’ involvement in the children’s education makes it easier for the children to learn what they are taught even when they are not at school.
