Open windows create opportunity for criminals

KENSINGTON B – Police warn motorist to refrain from driving with open windows.

Incidents of theft out of motor vehicle is a worrying trend in the Randburg police precinct. It was established that motorists drive their vehicles with open windows. This apparently creates an opportunity for criminals, especially at traffic lights.

Randburg Police spokesperson Constable Stanley Bopape advised motorists to close their windows at traffic lights and stop signs. “Criminals find it easy to grab handbags, laptops and cell phones inside the vehicles,” he explained.

Smash-and-grab incidents also occur when motorists have stopped at intersections and at traffic lights.

Const Bopape urges residents to make use of the Sector Police for assistance.
