Be a hero, donate blood this V-Day
NORTH RIDING – Share the gift of life this Valentine’s Day.
Northgate Shopping Centre offers shoppers the opportunity to spread the love by donating blood this Valentine’s weekend.
The drive started on 12 February in conjunction with South African National Blood Service (SANBS). The whole concept is to bring someone you love and share the love. Northgate Shopping Centre will in return offer you a complementary cup of coffee at Col’Cacchio, Maxi’s, Mugg and Bean, Ocean Basket, Spur or Wimpy.
Northgate marketing and communications manager Natalie Kinsley said, “This is a truly great initiative, by donating blood, you are literally saving a life and what could be more special than that on Valentine’s Day.”
A young man donated blood earlier in the morning and told us his reasons. Last year, he tragically lost his brother in a motorcycle accident, he passed away because there was no blood to save his life. Since then he tries to donate as often as possible.
Unfortunately, you cannot donate blood right now if you:
– Have low blood pressure
– Have high blood pressure
– Have low haemoglobin (iron)
– Are pregnant
– Have had surgery recently
– Are taking certain medications
“We’re grateful to those who have come to donate blood, and we’re looking forward to many more donors coming to Northgate throughout the weekend,” added Kinsely.
