Watch out for followers

KENSINGTON B – Robbers can be very aggressive if victims try to fight them.

Residents in the Randburg Police Precinct are warned to be more vigilant while driving from shopping centres, OR Tambo International Airport and on William Nicol Drive.

Police have noted a developing trend where motorists are being followed to their homes and robbed in their driveways.

Police spokesperson Constable Stanley Bopape appealed to residents to be observant at all times if they are followed. “These robbers wear face masks and gloves. If you see that you are being followed, drive to the police station or stop when you see security reaction or police vehicles,” he said.

He further explained that armed robbers either blocked or pulled motorists at traffic lights.

This usually happens when motorists drive off from the highway into the suburbs. Armed robbers then demand jewellery and handbags.

“Residents need to keep their passports and documentation separate from their handbags,” he advised.

He cautioned that some of the robbers were armed and could be extremely aggressive. “Remain calm and comply with their instructions,” he concluded.
