Johnson raises the bar at Rand Park High

RANDPARK RIDGE – Former Puma’s player Sean Johnson gets Rand Park High's rugby in fit shape.

Rand Park High School rugby team has the privilege of welcoming their new coach, Sean Johnson.

Johnson played five seasons at the Pumas and has 69 official provincial Caps as well as playing for the Valke for one year.

Despite his busy schedule, this super star has managed to obtain his BA (Hons) (Psychology) from Unisa. He has trained hard to get his International Rugby Board Level 2 and Level 2 coaching.

“My personal philosophy for rugby is to teach the players that there is more to a game than just simply losing or winning,” said Johnson. He attended Rand Park High School from 1994 to 1998 and said the most ironic thing is that most of the players he now coaches were born in 1998. It was by a sheer stroke of luck and coincidence that Johnson got the job at his old school.

“I am trying to use the structures I learned during my professional career to develop the boys, I like to train smart rather than hard,” added Johnson.

According to him, the skills and lessons you learn while playing rugby can be used in the outside world. “Rugby is a game that is able to shape the minds and attitudes of people and it is a vehicle for lessons that can be carried into all spheres of life.”

The Rand Park High School rugby family is happy to welcome Johnson and his values. “These are great boys and I hope through tweaking one or two things that we can achieve greatness and follow through with the previous successes they have obtained.”
