Granny turns 90

SHARONLEA – Happy birthday to Nora Steenkamp who turns 90 on 11 February.

Nora Steenkamp, affectionately known as Granny Nora, turns 90 on 11 February.

Granny Nora, originally from the West Rand, has been living with her two widowed daughters in Sharonlea since her husband Warren was gunned down in his car while the two of them were returning home from the casino one night in Mabopane, 19 years ago on 22 January.

The couple would have celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on 1 February when Warren was killed.

Granny Nora still works every single day with her daughter Marilyn at the art gallery at Settlers Contemporary Furnishers at Decor Centre in Strydom Park.

Granny Nora has three children, all of whom are pensioners already, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, four of whom are in America so she does not get to see them too often.

She is still extremely healthy, bar for a vertigo problem but her motto in life is “Work hard, eat lots of chocolate and ice-cream and do good unto others wherever possible and believe in your God in heaven”.

Her daughter Desireé Johnson and family wish her a very happy birthday.
