Criminals target complexes between midnight and 4am

HONEYDEW – The Honeydew Police precinct experiences an increase in incidents of housebreaking and robberies.

The number of housebreaking and robbery cases in the Honeydew Police precinct is increasing at an alarming rate.

Police warn residents to refrain from going out in their gardens or yards either to smoke or investigate why their dogs are barking during the night.

Honeydew Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs explained that most of the incidents occurred between 12am and 4am.

Police established there were three or four suspects terrorising communities with either firearms or knives. “Residents must not open any doors either. Rather stay in the house and call your security company and the Honeydew Police,” WO Jacobs urged.

The suspects allegedly take items such as laptops, iPads and phones as they are easy to carry.

Residents who have sliding doors in their homes, should try to install dead locks and security gates as an added barrier as these doors were often used to gain access to the house.

“Do not leave any windows or curtains open. Ensure these are closed as soon as it gets dark and do not leave any keys close to the doors,” WO Jacobs concluded.
