She has had other hobbies and jobs, but riding has always been her number one, she has never stopped.

Donaldson said, “In my youth, I entered lots of horse-jumping, dressage competitions, but now it is no longer about competing or winning, I find horse riding good exercise,” she said.

She said she is happy that many women are into it today.

“I would love to make it my career, it is a good sport but horse riding is an expensive sport,” she said.

She said people do horse riding for different reasons – for some it is a lifetime sport while for others it is good exercise and therapy.

Donaldson said she visits Harveston Stables Equestrian Centre in Honeydew a few times a month for riding.

Recentlym Donaldson was riding a horse named Vonk (22), one of the oldest male horses in the centre.”Vonk is an old man owned by the centre,” said centre founder Karin Vermeulen.

Vermeulen said the centre caters to riders of all ages and many levels every day but students are required to wear suitable attire.

“For those who do not own horses, we do assist and you can have four lessons per month,” she said.

Residents are also allowed to stable horses at the centre, provided they take care of food and pay the centre.
