MONTECASINO – Randburg Parliamentary Constituency office honours 2015 Matric top achievers from public schools.

Randburg Parliamentary Constituency office acknowledged achievements of 2015 Matric pupils from the Greater Randburg area.

The top three pupils from public schools within the ANC Zone 14 which consits of wards 94, 95, 96, 97, 100, 101,102, 115 and 134, received certificates from the organisation.

The awards ceremony was held at Pivot Conference Centre at Montecasino on 23 January and was aimed at motivating schools to work hard and maintain 100 per cent pass rate.

The organisation also acknowledged the positive contribution by teachers hoping to build public confidence in those teachers who were teaching at public schools.

School principals, School Governing Body (SGB) members, parents and top achievers were among the stakeholders who attended the lunch with ANC members.

Member of Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Honourable Mike Madlala motivated former pupils to continue with their studies.

He told them that education was a lifetime investment and that obtaining a Matric certificate was the beginning of many possibilities. “It is therefore important to prioritise your education. You are the future leaders of this country,” he said.

He further explained that he would have chosen to talk about politics but he chose education considering how important it was. “You will find people blocking a road for months and preventing children going to schools, what has a road got to do with education,” he asked.

Madlala said that parents should provide leadership to the children and support teachers as well as district managers.

Johannesburg North District 10 circuit manager Khosi Mokgapa indicated that school governing bodies should support schools and teachers. “We need you (SGBs) to support us so that we can get excellent results and it will help pupils obtain bursaries,” she said.

She also thanked the former model C schools for sharing resources with schools in the townships.

Fourways High, Cosmo City Secondary, Hoërskool Randburg, Ferndale High were among other schools that were invited to the ceremony.
