Police are looking for negligent mother

HONEYDEW – A two-day-old baby was left at the Witkoppen Clinic by the mother.

The Honeydew Cluster Family Violence Sexual Offence Unit has released an identity kit of a mother who left her baby at the Witkoppen Health and Welfare Centre in Douglasdale in December last year.

According to Honeydew Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs, it is alleged that the mother of a baby, who was about two days at the time, arrived at the clinic and asked one of the patients to hold her baby as she wanted to go to the gate.

“The mother never returned. The child was subsequently placed in a place of safety,” explained WO Jacobs.

The police were investigating a case of child neglect and abandonment and were appealing to anyone with information to kindly contact the investigating officer, Constable Gaohengwe Mokwai, on 084 805 4727.

Details: Honeydew SAPS, 011 767 8000.
