LINDEN – A fundraising event for a pupil at Hoërskool Linden following his freak accident is a big success.

Pupils from Hoërskool Linden along with parents and members from the community turned out in large numbers on 15 January, to show their support for Matric pupil JG Oosthuizen, who is a C5 quadriplegic following a serious accident while on holiday in Mossel Bay.

Hoërskool Linden launched a fundraising drive for Oosthiuzen who has started his long road to recovery in the Life Riverfield Lodge Rehabilitation Centre in Johannesburg.

Anita Snyman, a member of the Hoërskool Linden governing body, said that it was heart warming to see the support from the community.

“Not only did Hoërskool Linden pupils raise about R30 000 in cash donations for JG on the day, but various other individuals and businesses pledged their support,” said Snyman.

She went on to add that Hoërskool Randburg pupils, as well as the Grade 7 group from Laerskool Louw Geldenhuys joined the launch of the JG Oosthuizen Fund and vowed to do their bit to help raise funds for this cause.

Snyman also explained that she thought JG to be an inspiration to many people and was impressed with his determination, and his positive spirit in the face of adversity.

“JG is motivated to regain some mobility and is willing to do whatever it takes to work toward this goal,” said Snyman.

Snyman concluded that JG’s family was overwhelmed by the support they received and JG’s mother, Ezeth expressed her gratitude on the day, saying that the Linden community, and in particular JG’s friends, are pillars of strength at this time.
