BORDEAUX – Children from five to 13 years start their cricket league.

The Old Parktonian Sports Club in Bordeaux kicked off a new season of their junior cricket league on 16 January.

Children from about 20 schools came to register and to be part of the league. There were some old members and some new ones. They were all divided into their age groups to start practice.

Duncan Craggs, who has been a coach for the junior cricket league at Old Parks for over 20 years and is the coach of junior cricket at the club, said that they encourage children from the ages of five to 13 to come and join the junior league. “This is a great opportunity for the children to have fun and improve their skills in cricket and it is great for beginners as well,” said Craggs.

He said that the club is a wonderful platform for the children to make friends and to get away from TV and do more exercises, “This will help with their cricket and social skills while they are getting fit,” he said. This is also a good way for the parents to get involved in their children’s activities and to volunteer for the weekend games and activities.

The coaches at the club are a selected, qualified few and most of them are active players at premier level.

Craggs said that the plan for this year is to have more children join the club who can learn and be proud of their skills.

There will be cricket practices and matches every Saturday and notice will be sent out via email so that everyone is kept in the loop.
