Robbery leaves man without his Rolex

DOUGLASDALE – Tailgate robbery leaves a security guard injured and man without his Rolex.

Four assailants tailgated a man to his place of work on 13 January and robbed him of his Rolex watch and left a security guard injured.

Douglasdale Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Balan Muthan said the four suspects were driving a white vehicle and followed the man from Northgate Shopping Centre to his place of work. The watch, valued at R120 000, seemed to be the biggest motivation for the robbers. WO Muthan further explained that the incident took place at about 3.20pm outside the man’s place of work.

“The receptionist at the man’s workplace saw what happened and closed the gate – it was here where the suspects drove the vehicle into the gate and abandoned the vehicle,” said WO Muthan.

He explained that a shootout between the security guard and the assailants ensued which led to the arrest of one of the suspects along with the recovery of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“The security guard was left with injuries to his left hand,” said WO Muthan.

He concluded that upon further investigation, the suspect had been positively linked to at least six robbery cases in the Douglasdale area and that the other three assailants had fled the scene, however, the police are still searching for them.
