GALLERY: PLG North Riding Academy opens its doors

NORTH RIDING – PLG North Riding Academy opened its doors for the first time on 13 January.

PLG Schools North Riding Academy officially opened its doors for the first time in North Riding.

The learning lessons began on the morning of 13 January with 155 pupils who have enrolled to study this year.

It was abuzz with excitement by all present, including parents, pupils, teachers, admin staff and the head master of the school, Andries van den Heever.

The Academy’s official opening was symbolised by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, done by CEO of the Pembury Lifestyle Group (PLG), Andrew McLachlan.

The PLG Group acquired the property, Banbury Cross Village, last year August and transformed it into the school. The existing nursery on the property, Dimples, was also acquired and will act as a feeder to the PLG Northriding Academy Pre-Primary.

The school would be offering up to Grade 6 in 2016. In 2017, Grade 7, 8 and 9 will be offered and thereafter Grade 10 –12.

PLG schools follow the national curriculum, namely the Curriculum Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) syllabus. At the senior level, the school will primarily teach the Independent Examination Board (IEB) Curriculum. Classes remain small at 25 pupils per classroom and the primary instruction is in English.

Two more PLG Schools opened their doors today, namely PLG Mellow Oaks Academy in Ruimsig, Roodepoort and PLG Hartbeespoort Academy in the North West Province.
