Goals set for pupils this year

A new year is a new chance for you to improve on your work ethic. Pupils have it hard and should plan their academic year while it is still early by setting goals that will enable them to make school fun and easier.

• Start by recapping your previous year’s work and look at the obstacles you faced, then make a list of of your problem areas and identify obstacles to success.
• Brainstorm your problems, work on them term by term. Do not overwhelm yourself.
• Make short-term goals that are realistic and also set out realistic goals for your marks.
• Work on your time management, allocate a certain amount of time to your studies per day and stick to it. Create a timetable for yourself and use your time wisely
• Plan ahead, study ahead and always stay prepared.
• Do not procrastinate, when you have work to do, do it. The work will pile up and that will leave you frustrated and behind.
• Always ask for help where you are struggling, when you do not understand something always ask. This will work better than doing the wrong work and redoing it.
• Spend time in the library, it will be good to be in a place where you will not get easily distracted.
• Give your cellphone a break and try and limit your time on social media.
• Test yourself weekly on the work you have been studying. Stop and reassess and constantly check your progress.
• Get a study buddy who is just as dedicated as yourself to help you.
• Keep yourself motivated and keep your confidence up.
• Do not overwork yourself or put too much pressure on yourself.
• Include your family and have a support structure.
• Aim for progress, not perfection. Sometimes improvement takes time. You may not be able to accomplish all the goals on your action plan, but as long as you see progression, you are on the right track.
• Lastly, relax and have fun. Studying must not be a chore. Find the enjoyment in your studies.
