GALLERY: Success brings elation

RANDPARK RIDGE – Matriculants of Rand Park High School gathered to celebrate Matric success stories.

It was an auspicious day for the Matric pupils of Rand Park High School on 6 January as they anxiously made their way to school to receive their results.

Pupils walked onto the school grounds with pride as they realised that they were now former pupils of the school they had called home for the past five years. They gathered around the school in small hubs as they looked through the paper to find their student numbers. The school echoed with laughs and praises.

Alan Wilke, principal of the school, said that the school received a 99 per cent pass rate which saw 79 per cent obtain a bachelor’s degree pass.

“For pupils who did not achieve their desired marks, there is always a way to better their results and they should not give up,” said Wilke.

Codney Shabangu, a Matriculant at the school, said that he received great support from the teachers of the school and his peers.

“To prepare for the exams, my friends and I would all study together and if one didn’t understand something there was always one who did and that is how we helped each other,” said Shabangu.

Fellow Matriculant, Bridget Simani said that she thought the year to be challenging, however she did not let that stress get to her.

“I really had to rely on myself to pass because I live far from school so there was no chance of me joining my peers in all the extra classes that were held here at school, so it is great that I managed to do so well,” said Simani.

Katleho Raphasha, another Matriculant said that he was surprised he did well in history as he thought it was not his strongest subject through the year. He added that he was raised by a single mother who gave as much support as she possibly could.

Ntokozo Maphosa concluded with the sentiment that now that he has achieved his Matric certificate, he can look to a career that would make him travel and see the world.
