Pupils proved subjects are achievable

RANDBURG – Clever pupils make their schools proud in 2015.

Throughout the year, several pupils excelled academically. Here’s a round up of pupils and schools from across Randburg who were the most successful.

In May, Caitlyn Morgan (11) showed her peers that maths is not scary.

Morgan started her Calculating Mental Arithmetic Tuition (CMaths) journey in 2011 at her school, Weltervreden Park Primary.

In August, the Grade 5 pupil and a resident of Randpark Ridge was selected to represent South Africa in the PAMA International Competition in California in December.

Morgan is set to represent South Africa in the 15th PAMA Global Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Competition.

The competition will take place in California, USA in December. This is the second time Morgan has made the CMaths South African team.

In October, two pupils from Thandulwazi Saturday School triumphed in the annual Thandulwazi Mathematics Challenge for a second year in a row.

At the Thandulwazi Maths and Science Academy Prize-Giving, Nigel Hove was named as the winner of the Grade 12 Mathletics Challenge.

He was awarded the prize for the top Grade 12 Mathletics pupil.

Thabo Mbatha from Itirele Zenzele Comprehensive School was announced as the Grade 11 winner of 2015.

In June, the Grade 4 pupils from The Spark School in Ferndale taught their parents what they were learning at school.

They showcased their literacy and numeracy skills. “This is a family event. We have been hosting picnics for each grade from the beginning of May,” explained Spark School principal, Bailey Thomson.
