Councillor David Potter’s new year plans

FERNDALE – Councillor David Potter would love to see the promised JMPD10+ in action.

Ward 102 Councillor David Potter sends his wishes for the next year.

2016 is an exciting election year. The election will likely take place around May, June or July.

I will be standing for re-election to ensure the continuity in my role as a City councillor. Residents across the City must ensure that they are registered to vote, during voter registration weekend in early February, and once registered to vote, actually come out and vote. Each vote is important.

The Randburg CBD upgrade started earlier this year but was not as successful as planned. The City of Joburg will in the new year relaunch the upgrade of the Hill Street Pedestrian Mall and I am hopeful that the upgrade will make Randburg fresher, safer and secure.

My next project with Ward 104 Councillor Mike Wood, will be to bring the disastrous state of the Randburg Home Affairs building to the attention of Public Works. Anyone that has been there or tried to use the toilets will know that the place is a disgrace.

Fontainebleau Laerskool has requested for JRA to turn Joubert Street into a one-way street, and Randburg Hoerskool has started discussions around installing a pedestrian bridge across Malibongwe – both these projects will hopefully be completed in the New Year – both in the interest of pedestrian, commuter and pupil safety.

The Revenue Department has assured me that the Walk-In Centre in the Randburg Civic Centre will get a facelift, I am hopeful for a better working environment for the staff, and a better visitor environment for the residents and businesses who make use of the facility when they query or pay their account.

Improvements in the ward

I would love to see the promised JMPD10+ in action. The City claims that in other regions it is working well, but I can tell you in Region B it is near non-existent. JMPD is not doing nearly enough to ensure enforcement of bylaws and traffic offences are priority. Furthermore, I am hopeful that JRA will have street furniture (signs) and replace those that are damaged or missing and continue to resurface roads across the ward that are in desperate need. It is my hope that the billing disaster that continues to plague many residents will be resolved and every resident will receive and accurate bill, on time, every time.
