Most of those stories made headlines since the beginning of this year and here are the most prominent incidents.

Couple strangled in Bryanston 

On 19 January the then station commander of Randburg Police Station Brigadier Lettie Hugo confirmed that an Audi A3 that was stolen when the couple was attacked in Bryanston was found in Vosloorus. The couple was strangled to death at their home and were found on the morning of 16 January.

BREAKING NEWS: Ex-cop murdered in front of son and wife 

A robbery turned into a murder when a former policeman, André Fabricius, was reportedly shot in the heart at 3 am on 17 February in Linden. He was killed when the family was attacked by three men armed with a gun and two axes.

Tablets delivery leads to guard’s death 

In Cosmo City a security guard was shot dead on the evening of 20 March by criminals in a burglary at Cosmo City Secondary school. The incident was linked to the tablets that were delivered at the school.

Mom and daughter (11) tied up and robbed 

Three unknown robbers entered a house after breaking a window in Linden on 2 April and tied up a women and her 11-year-old daughter. They robbed several items from the house and left the mother and daughter shocked and traumatised.

BREAKING NEWS: Shooting in Darrenwood, customer shot 

A man tragically lost his life when he was shot in the evening of 16 April at Darrenwood Shopping Centre. He was shot three times in the lower body and head when he got out of his car at the parking lot. He was killed by unknown robbers who were allegedly robbing the owner of the bottle store and a café.

Robbery gone wrong 

A 35-year-old man was shot and left brain dead in front of his girlfriend on 30 April in Northwold. Two robbers allegedly ran away with valuable items after shooting the men in the side of his face. His girlfriend was tied up and hit with the gun during the robbery.

Six families, three minutes 

On 20 June, masked gunmen stormed a house party in Linden on Tana Road and made off with loot. Six families with 17 children and 17 adults were robbed of their valuable items in an incident that did not take longer than three minutes.

UPDATE: Suspects fail to snatch cash after shootout 

In Randburg CBD on 25 July a robbery incident was foiled after eight armed suspects, who shot at the SBV security guards who were delivering cash at Standard Bank in Randburg Square Shopping Centre failed to snatch the cash.

This was after the guard with the money trolley dashed into the bank as robbers were firing shots. They fled without cash.

UPDATE: Cash-in-transit robbery, suspects at large 

One guard was shot in the back and the other one in the leg during a cash-in-transit heist in the afternoon of 4 August in Randburg CBD at Cambridge Store. The police then launched a massive manhunt after unknown robbers allegedly fled with two boxes containing an undisclosed amount of cash.

Park visitor shot dead 

In Golden Havest Park at North Riding a man was shot and killed during an armed robbery on 20 August. A man who visited the park with his friends was approached by two armed men who allegedly started shooting at them.
