Ward 98 Councillor Laurette Van Zijl looks back on 2015 and gives her Christmas wishes:
This year, 2015, is overshadowed by the recent violent world events during which many innocent people perished because of the intolerance of a relative small groupings of people who had been inoculated with the hatred of fanatics.
While most of our lives have not been directly affected by these events, they will for many years to come loom in the background of our minds as no one knows when or where the next strike shall be.
On home turf our lives are beset by the City’s deteriorating services which in 2015 reached a low of lows, especially in the field of electricity supply, bylaw enforcement and most recently lack of water supply in major parts of Johannesburg.
Against this sombre background, we are entering the festive season of good cheer. My wish to each and every resident is one of hope and good will: may the spirit of the month sustain you so that you can start 2016 with renewed energy. If you are lucky enough to be able to go away, enjoy the break and drive safely.
