Top actress in the dock for theft

RANDBURG – Top actress Busi Lurayi is in the dock for allegedly stealing her boyfriend's possessions.

One of SA’s most talented stars Busi Lurayi, faces a charge of theft.

Police confirmed that the well-known award-winning actress was arrested by Randburg Police and appeared at Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 11 December for a bail application.

According to the Randburg Police spokesperson Constable Stanley Bopape, Lurayi was granted R20 000 bail.

“I don’t know if she afforded the bail or she is still in custody,” said Constable Bopape.

Constable Bopape said Lurayi’s boyfriend opened the case, accusing her of stealing from their house.

“The docket is still with the prosecutor so I am unable to tell what she stole from the house and how much in worth ,” he said.

According to a source, Lurayi’s boyfriend allegedly came back to the house from Port Elizabeth only to find possessions missing from the house.

Lurayi is best known for her role as Phumzile on SABC1 sitcom City Ses’la.

In 2006 she won the inaugural South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTA) for Best Supporting Actress in a TV Comedy, for the role.

She also played the role of Winnie Molepo, a lawyer in the SABC1 drama series Sokhulu and Partners in 2008.

In 2011 she joined SABC1 soapie Generations in the role of Swazi Lukhele.

In 2012 she was a main cast member of the Mzansi Magic sitcom SIES and in 2013 she became the host of the M-Net game show called Million Rand Money Drop.

Other dramas she acted in include Ses’Top La, Wild At Heart and a medical drama ER.
