GALLERY: Surprise 50th anniversary celebration

NORTH RIDING – Couple celebrate surprise milestone with close family and friends.

Kishore and Indira Misra celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on 12 December at Waterfall Country Estate in Woodmead.

The North Riding residents were treated to a surprise celebration at their son’s home where they were joined by close friends and family from Joburg and Durban.

The joyous celebration was organised by their daughter, son and daughter-in-law. A catering company provided the food, while an anniversary cake was enjoyed for dessert.

Sandipa Seeparsad, who is the younger child of the couple, said the day was filled with dancing. A slideshow was prepared with all their photographic memories over the past 50 years.

“My parents had no idea what we had planned for them when I told them we were just going out for a family dinner. When we arrived at my brother’s place, they were completely surprised when everyone stood on the balcony waiting to surprise them,” Seeparsad said.

The anniversary party was her and her brother’s gift to them to honour their special milestone.

“I’ve learned from their relationship that relationships are about compromise, this is what makes marriage successful. I also learned that keeping yourself and your mind occupied is the key to aging gracefully,” said Seeparsad.

Indira said that marriage is not a smooth ride. One has to work very hard to make it work. There is no perfect person whom you marry and there will never be.

“We have to teach ourselves to see an imperfect person as a perfect one. Remember when you find that perfect soul mate prepare for a marriage and not for a wedding. A wedding can be over in a few minutes but a marriage lasts forever,” said Indira.
