GALLERY: SPCA Randburg receives a container

NORTH RIDING – Keys to the new container are officially handed over to Randburg SPCA.

Randburg SPCA received a donation of a cargo ship container from Container World on 12 December, after a fire destroyed the previous one at the SPCA on 11 November.

The container contained contents of the SPCA charity shop worth R120 000.

SPCA came on the radar of Container World after employee Charmaine Rowlands felt that she had to do something about the damage the fire had caused. “SPCA is very close to my heart, I love animals and I had to try find a way to help out,” said Rowlands.

After Container World head office in Durban got wind of the story, they replied to the request for a new container within two days. A 12m cargo shipping container was donated, which is double the size of the one damaged in the fire. The container cost R27 000 with additional costs for doors and painting worth

R15 000.

The official handing over of the key from Container World to Randburg SPCA general manager Craig Rudman took place on 12 December with the cutting of a ribbon. “We are very excited about the container – it will really help us a lot. People are always welcome to donate clothing, books, magazines, CDs, DVDs and vinyls to the charity shop,” said Rudman.

Regional sales manager of Container World, Warrick Foyle said, “We are happy to to help SPCA and create awareness, and make it easier for their storage needs.”
