Why Mashaba wants to be a Joburg mayor?

BRAYNSTON – Business man Herman Mashaba hopes that the City would once again be the beacon of light for the whole of Africa.

High unemployment rate, rampant corruption and the Country’s economic performances on the global scale prompted Black Like Me founder, Herman Mashaba, to politics.

Mashaba explained that people have asked him to dedicate his time to politics ever since he joined Democratic Alliance (DA). “It is about time that all of us take responsibility, especially the privileged South Africans, instead of watching our country collapsing,” he said.

He urged residents to register and vote for the political party of their choice in the next year’s local government elections.

“If we want to see a change in our country, we need to do that democratically,” explained Mashaba.

He added that residents should make it clear to politicians that if they were not delivering they could oust them from power.

Mashaba announced in a statement on 10 December that he was making himself available as a mayoral candidate for DA in the City of Johannesburg in 2016.

He said in a statement that the latest removal of the Minister of Finance, Nhlahla Nene, clearly confirmed the lack of leadership with foresight and concern for the country.

“I believe that it is time that hardworking and honest people make themselves available for public service. In this spirit I am prepared to throw 100 per cent of my effort into the bid to be the DA’s mayoral candidate,” he elaborated.

Mashaba also leads the Free Market Foundation’s challenge to Section 32 of Labour Relations Act.
