UPDATE: Surrey Avenue construction continues according to the schedule

FERNDALE – JRA will ensure that the work is undertaken in line with required construction standards and that safety compliance is prioritised.

Joburg Road Agency assured the public that the project to fix storm-water drainage and sidewalks pavements in Surrey Avenue in Ferndale, is continuing according to the schedule.

Dirk Botha from Krisp Properties Commercial established that construction was halted since 30 November.

He complained that the situation was more dangerous than before the construction started.

“We need urgent feedback on what is the plan of action, as this is now 100 times more dangerous and life threatening than before,” Botha said.

JRA spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers explained that the entity held discussions with the contractor to highlight concerns regarding the project performances.

“Should performance not improve by 20 January 2016, the JRA will have no option but to reconsider the contract. The entity has also notified the contractor that the site should be secure for all road users before the December construction break commences,” Peters-Scheepers explained.

She further indicated that the work was always paid in line with the conditions as agreed upon by both parties.

She concluded that JRA was managing the project.

“We will ensure that the work is undertaken in line with required construction standards and ensuring that safety compliance is prioritised.

“We sincerely apologise to the community for the delay in this storm-water construction project,” Peters-Scheepers concluded.
