No shootout at Golden Harvest Park

RANDBURG – Friends of Golden Harvest Park say it is still safe for residents to visit the park.

Friends of Golden Harvest Park have dismissed social media messages alleging that there was a shootout in the park recently.

Chairperson for the Friends of Golden Harvest, Adri Albertyn said it has been quiet lately and every crime taking place in the park gets reported to them as soon as possible.

She said the only crime that was reported took place three weeks ago, and it was committed by some men.

“It was not something very serious, they took a watch, but there was no shootout,” said Albertyn.

She added that people visit the park, including the elderly walking with their dogs, without being attacked by criminals in the park.

She explained that there are police cars and security patrolling the park regularly just to keep residents and visitors safe.

“Visiting hours are from 6am to 6 pm, but we don’t chase those [who are having]an evening braai,” she said.

Although she said there are police patrolers, Albertyn still advises people to stay alert.

Ward 101 Councillor Ralf Bittkau also denied that there has been a shootout in the park.

But he still believes that for safety purposes, there are certain things that need to be attended to in the park, including the upgrading of gates.

Councillor Bittkau said there are strict visiting hours, so people visiting the park after hours are doing this at their own risk.
