Residents assist police to arrest a robbery suspect

KENSINGTON B – A suspect was arrested in Kensington B with the assistance of residents.

Randburg Police believe that when community members work closely with them, criminals can be easily arrested.

This follows an incident that occurred on 2 December, corner of Rhodes and Frere Street in Kensington B, when a suspect approached his victim and allegedly took her handbag.

According to Randburg Police spokesperson Constable Stanley Bopape, the man approached a woman who initially refused to give him her handbag.

“The suspect allegedly slapped the woman and told her to walk away. After a short distance from the incident scene, she screamed for help and two men who were working at the construction site chased the man and grabbed him (suspect) at the next street and called the police,” he said.

He further explained that an amount of cash and few items including a cell phone were recovered and given back to the victim.

He concluded that the suspect was arrested and charged for assault and common robbery.

“He will appear at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon,” he concluded.
