Pupil gets financial assistance

RANDBURG – Historically disadvantaged pupil demonstrates her talent in the field of maths and science.

The Thandulwazi Academic Scholarship has been awarded to Kamogelo Molapisi (15), a pupil at Vorentoe Hoërskool.

Molapisi was named as the recipient of the Thandulwazi Academic Scholarship 2016 – 2018, after she went trough two rounds of interviews.

The scholarship was advertised through the Methodist Church of Southern Africa and 22 pupils from schools around Gauteng, applied.

They also wrote assessment tests, which covered mathematics, natural science and English.

The scholarship covers in full tuition fees and the development levy for Grade 10, 11 and 12 at St Stithians Girls’ College.

Kamogelo will commence her studies in Grade 10 at St Stithians Girls’ College in January 2016.

She lives with her single mother, Francina Molapisi who works for Bryanston Methodist Church, in Soweto.

Funds were donated by one of Thandulwazi’s longstanding corporate partners in education.

Thandulwazi Learner Sponsorship Programme, is one of four programmes facilitated by the Thandulwazi Maths and Science Academy.

It seeks to identify pupils from historically disadvantaged South African (HDSA) groups, who demonstrate talent in the fields of maths and science. “Thanks to the generous support of our partners in education, over the last five years, Thandulwazi has been fortunate enough to source multi-year funding for five academic scholarships,” said the St Stithians Foundation director Bev Johnson.

Three Thandulwazi pupils excelled in Matric and went on to complete their tertiary studies at UCT, Wits and Tukkies. Currently two more scholarship-holders are completing their studies in Grade 10 and 11 respectively at St Stithians College.
