GALLERY and VIDEO: NCVT celebrates 16 Days of Activism

COSMO CITY - National Children and Violence Trust commemorates 16 Days of Activism at the Multi-Purpose Hall in Cosmo City.

The National Children and Violence Trust (NCVT) commemorated 16 Days of Activism of no violence against women and children on 3 December at the Multi-Purpose Hall in Cosmo City.

NCVT spokesperson Bridget Seabi said the campaign started on 25 November and will continue until 10 December.

Every year the NGO starts the campaign with a candlelight ceremony that was held this year on 1 December in Cosmo City.

Seabi explained the function at the Multi Purpose Hall was held to give the social workers of NCVT the chance to interact with members of the community of Cosmo City.

“We wanted the community to get the opportunity to give their views and opinions about woman and child abuse to the social workers, which is in line with our mission to protect vulnerable women and children” said Seabi.

She also mentioned that the theme of the day was Count Me In: Cosmo City Unite To End Violence Against Women And Children.

Pastor Fhatuwani Luvhengo opened the day with a prayer and was followed by Ward 100 representative Pinkie Ncikana who welcomed guests.

Social worker Chivimbiso Mutibwichi, SAPS representative Warrant Officer Leshaba Ramalatso, Cosmo City Service Provider Forum’s Peter Mphahlele, NCVT Trustee Nokwazi Mzobe and NCTV social auxilary worker Pamela Alexander were some of the speakers.

Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services Professor Hlengiwe Mkhize also highlighted the plight of violence against women and welcomed the Supreme Court of Appeal’s decision of convicting Oscar Pretorius for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp.

The Congo Dance Group of Cosmo City also did a performance.
