Abraham Kriel’s wishes for Christmas

LINDEN – A rehabilitation centre for children who have been subject to trauma wishes their children to be placed in happy homes.

Abraham Kriel’s Childcare (AKC) is a registered NPO providing childcare in the greater Johannesburg and East Rand in Gauteng. Our passion is to ensure the optimal development of traumatised children in need of care. AKC provides both residential care and community services and focuses on providing shelter, care and rehabilitation for children between the ages of birth and 18 years, who have been subjected to trauma, abuse, molestation, poverty and neglect. Currently AKC operates 21 (including a baby unit) houses for children and carries out six community care programmes that provide food, shelter, pastoral care, remedial care, social services, skills development services and early childhood development. Three of these houses are in Linden, Risidale and Fontainebleau.

Chief executive officer, Paul Momsen, wishes that every child can be a happy child in a happy family.

“There isn’t a gift that can compensate for the absence of family,” said Momsen. “AKC staff must compensate for the mother who never comes or the father they don’t know.”

For the children at AKC, the childcare workers and staff are their family. The houses, food, clothing, education and small buses that AKC provides, are our children’s houses, food and transport.

For this reason, we wish for funds to be able to pay salaries to these substitute mothers and fathers, provide some outings and memories during the December/January holidays, provide school necessities in January, to pay for water and electricity and fuel and even to afford tertiary studies.

Here are real short term wishes:

  • Christmas lunch – any food/meat/dessert
  • Hampers for a family
  • Please provide much needed funds to keep our household running.

CHRISTMAS LUNCH

The staff and children usually prepare a lovely Christmas meal shared around a table on Christmas Day. You can assist us by sponsoring food.

HAMPERS FOR A FAMILY

Many of our children live in very poor conditions in the communities. Many are child-headed families. Assist us with hampers of any kind to make their holidays special.
