Councillor says bad news regarding refuse

JOBURG – Ward 102 Councillor David Potter said Pikitup workers are still on strike and refuge will not be collected yet.

Ward 102 Councillor David Potter said there is not much hope regarding the collection of refuse throughout Johannesburg as Pikitup workers are still on strike.

Potter shared the information that he heard on 702 Talk Radio on 3 December.

He stated that a private contractor (contracted by Pikitup) called in on 702 to say that Pikitup has to withdraw their staff and vehicles due to severe intimidation and damage to their vehicles.

“This will severely affect the collection of refuse from our households and businesses in the Ward and across the City,” said Potter.

Potter said Pikitup has mentioned that their refuse depots are available for dumping of waste however, there is never certainty around the availability of this, due to the intimidation.

The two Pikitup depots are in Bryanston (William Nicol corner Ballyclare in Bryanston) and Victory Park (next to Pirates Club).

He encourages the public to recycle.
