GALLERY and VIDEO: Christmas in Kya Sand

KYA SAND – Christmas came early to the children of Pipeline Informal Settlement.

Father Christmas visited the children of Pipeline Informal Settlement in Kya Sand on 28 November for their Christmas party.

More than 2 000 children came in droves from Msawawa, Pipeline and other informal settlements to enjoy the small joys of the festive season.

Numerous companies participated in the event held at Judah Africa.

Security companies and other organisations put up jumping castles for the children to play.

Other volunteers kept the children entertained with face painting and arts and crafts.

The highlight of the day was the arrival of jolly old Father Christmas.

Instead of the conventional sleigh and reindeer, he arrived in a Douglasdale Police car.

The jingle bells were replaced with loud blue sirens and much like the pied piper, the children excitedly flocked to catch a glimpse.

Douglasdale SAPS Station Commander Brigadier Letti Hugo said, “We just want to thank those who made this possible, namely the CPF and Judah Africa. It has been marvelous to see the children so happy and laugh when they got their toys.”

Douglasdale SAPS, Bloubosrand CPF and volunteers joined forces to hand out sweets, teddy bears and clothes to the children. Carla-Lee Kamp added, “I would like to thank each and every person who helped make this Christmas party a huge success. Days like this help build up the community and create a sense of family.”
