Cyclists take a tumble on Beyers Naudé Drive

RANDPARK RIDGE – Two cyclists collide heavily, enroute to work.

Two cyclists collided on Beyers Naudé Drive, Randpark Ridge, on 12 November, resulting in one man sustaining a broken leg. The accident occurred around 6.45am between CR Swart Drive and Duiker Avenue.

A group of about 10 cyclists crowded around the injured man, while VitalMed paramedics strapped his leg tightly, placed him on a stretcher and whisked him away in an ambulance to Helen Joseph Hospital. Cyclist Zachari Khunkhu explained that a group of men cycle to work in a group every day . The injured man’s tyre apparently burst, and the cyclist behind him could not stop in time. They collided and both fell heavily.

The cyclist whose tyre burst sustained the worst injuries, while the other cyclist only sustained cuts and bruises. VitalMed paramedic Ashley Nicholls explained that the injured man’s right leg was broken and they were taking him to Helen Joseph hospital for treatment. VitalMed ER then tweeted, “2 Cyclists collided on Beyers Naude Drive. 1 treated on scene & transported to a medical facility, Moderate injuries.”
