NORTH RIDING – Rotary club of Randburg puts together a toy drive for underprivileged

Rotary Club of Randburg hosted a toy drive on 7 November where toys were wrapped with love.

For the last seven years the club has been working with Johnny Louch, chairperson of EXPRO. With his help and contributions they had a luncheon that was held at Turffontein Racecourse on 6 November where guests were required to bring toys as an entrance fee. Over 800 toys were collected.

The club will give the toys to the CHOC Foundation, the Smile Foundation, and Reach for a Dream charity.

Chris Thompson, who has been part of the club for the past 20 years, said he loves giving back to the community.

“I enjoy helping those who cannot help themselves,” said Thompson. “Giving back to the community is important.”

The toy drive was held at North Riding Secondary School and the hall was filled with Rotarians and Anns (these are the wives of the club members) who were wrapping gifts and sorting them by age and gender.

LEGO, also made a donation to the value at R500 000.

Club member Stephen Margo explained that the club is invested in aiding the community in all the ways it possibly can, and making Christmas special for those less fortunate is just one of the many ways it chooses to make a difference.
